Mexican authorities arrested members of 17 Jewish families belonging to the extremist Jewish ultra-Orthodox sect Lev Tahor, a local outlet reported Tuesday.
Lev Tahor, meaning "pure heart" in Hebrew, was founded in Jerusalem in the 1980s by charismatic leader Rabbi Shlomo Hebrans, who died in mysterious circumstances in Mexico in 2017. The group and is estimated to number less than 300 members

Mexican authorities have raided a property along the border with Guatemala that had been used by the extreme Jewish cult movement Lev Tahor (pure heart). On that occasion, the Mexicans not only arrested 26 cult members, but also managed to rescue a three-year-old boy whose father escaped from the cult's violence years ago. This was announced by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Israel Amir, an Israeli survivor of the Lev Tahor haredi (ultra-Orthodox) cult who escaped the sect some three years ago successfully rescued his son from Mexico as local authorities raided and arrested sect members on Tuesday.
The Mexican raid, carried out in a migration control facility in southern Mexico where the Lev Tahor sect was based, saw members of 17 Jewish families belonging to the extremist sect arrested.
Amir's rescue mission, which was first reported by N12, was in the making for a while, with the sect survivor working on a plan to bring his son to Israel ever since he escaped Lev Tahor in Guatemala three years ago.
